Simulation of File Arrivals and Departures on Buffer sizing in Access Routers

چکیده
Most of the contemporary systems assumes that all the flow of packets are same and requires O(1) buffer size for transferring packets in a network. This leads to more buffer size even for short flow of packets also, which wastes the buffer size. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a new technique which uses different buffer sizes based on the packet flows. For long packet flows longer size buffers are used, for short packet flows tiny size buffers are sufficient and for mixed packet flows medium size buffers are used. This paper also presents an approach for increasing the link utilization based on maximum window size. Keywords— Buffer size, short flow, long flow, mixed flow, Maximum Window Size (MWS), link utilization.

Flow - size based priorities in Internet routers 1 Differential equation models of flow - size based priorities in Internet routers
Abstract: Simulation studies have shown that providing priority to short-flows in Internet routers can dramatically reduce their mean delay while having little impact on the long-flows that carry the bulk of Internet traffic. In this paper, we present simple differential equation models (commonly referred to as fluid models) that can be used to analytically quantify this observation. Our model ...
متن کاملBandwidth-Enhanced Waste-Free Control Technique for Multi-Queue Network Buffers
In high-speed network switches and routers, packet memories have to allow line-speed buffering of data packets. With today’s growing network line-rates, memory bandwidth is an essential constraint to build high-speed network buffers. In this paper, we propose a methodology for designing high-performance network-specific memories using slower lower-cost building blocks. We use parallel memory de...
متن کاملUnifying Buffer Sizing Results Through Fairness
Buffer sizing in Internet routers is a fundamental problem that has major consequences in design, implementation, and the economy of the routers, as well as on the performance observed by the end users. Recently, there have been some seemingly contradictory results on buffer sizing. On one hand, Appenzeller et al. show that as a direct consequence of desynchronization of flows in the core of th...
متن کاملBuffer Sizing in a Combined Input Output Queued (CIOQ) Switch
In all internet routers buffers are needed to hold packets during times of congestion. In some recent work, the question of finding the minimum buffer size guaranteeing high throughput has been addressed [3] [6]. The answer to this question is particularly important in building all-optical routers, where the optical technology allows buffering up to a few dozen packets [7]. While in practice mo...

This paper proposes a new sub-threshold low power 9T static random-access memory (SRAM) cell compatible with bit interleaving structure in which the effective sizing adjustment of access transistors in write mode is provided by isolating writing and reading paths. In the proposed cell, we consider a weak inverter to make better write mode operation. Moreover applying boosted word line feature ...
